American Telugu Association (ATA) Dallas chapter celebrated International Women’s Day on Sunday March 01, 2015 at Ruchi Palace Indian Restaurant. The event was supported by DFW local organizations, IANT, TANTEX, DATA and TPAD.

Indu Reddy Mandadi, DFW Regional Coordinator extended a warm welcome to over 100 attendees in spite of cold weather and a busy weekend filled with various events. Sandhya Gavva, ATA past president and advisory board member introduced the ATA team to the audience followed by Indu Reddy Mandadi recognizing representatives from all supporting organizations.

All speakers gave excellent presentations on relevant topics about women. Sandhya Gavva aptly said that women face lot of challenges in life but fortunately they are blessed with innate sense of discipline, perseverance and passion to do things to the best of their ability. Women in any role, as a student, employee, mother, wife etc. should always have a positive outlook towards life keeping a calm mind to avoid stress. Shabnam Modgil, Board of Trustee of IANT reiterated on how women play a very important role in shaping up the society. Shyamala Rumalla, TANTEX Board of Trustee said mothers are multi tuskers, backbones of family keeping everything in peace and harmony. Sandhya Padala one of the event sponsors talked about developing mobile apps which can provide job opportunities for women and how she started teaching computer classes to help women learn computer skills. As part of the celebration, DFW women entrepreneurs, physicians in community service, half marathon runners, and women in non-profit organizations were recognized. Rose flower badges were given to participants to commemorate this special day.

The highlight of the event was a fun filled Jeopardy Game, special woman version of America's favorite television game show. Participants were divided into groups competed against each other. Several women participated in an interesting discussion led by Geeta Dammanna on the topic, Raising Children in USA, Pros and Cons. General Consensus was that parents can choose what works best for them and children have more freedom to choose what they want rather than succumbing to social pressures. Also, it is important for parents to inculcate value-based education so children can get best of both worlds (East and West).

The informative and fun filled event came to an end with musical chairs organized by Madhavi Sunkireddy. Indu Reddy gave a vote of thanks to the distinguished speakers, the audience for their attendance, volunteers, sponsors, Ruchi India Restaurant for providing tasty food, excellent facilities and a welcoming meeting ambiance, Suraj Arts Photographers, and finally our media sponsors; CTV, TV9, TV5 for providing coverage of the event.
