ATA Women's Day - Chicago: March 8th 2015

American Telugu Association (ATA) Chicago chapter celebrated International Women’s day, along with Telugu Association of Greater Chicago (TAGC) on March 8th 2015 at Viceroy of India Banquet hall, Lombard, IL.

Over 190 women of Telugu origin participated in this event. Several topics like Gender policing, mental health and empowering women were discussed. Besides having fun our Chicago Telugu Women showed “We Care” by organizing a fundraising for charity as a part of the event. A total of $1700 was raised for the event with donations going to Apna-Ghar and food pantry. The charity event was coordinated by Padma Madireddy.

The official opening began with traditional lamp lighting by TAGC president, Mr Jagan Bukkaraju and invocation song by Vandana Reddy, Bhargavi Nettem and Padma Madireddy. This was followed by welcome address by Jagan Bukkaraju, President (TAGC).

Kalyan Anandula, Treasurer ATA, and Narendra Chemarla, ATA Convener, congratulated women on the occasion and talked about upcoming ATA activities and ATA Silver Jubilee Celebrations at Chicago from July 1-3' 2016. TAGC Board members Srinivas Chada, Hari Raini, Raghav Jatla, Murthy Pisapati and Pradeep Kandimalla provided logistics support for the event.

The event brought awareness among women through excellent presentations like“Gender Policing from a teen’s perspective “ by Ms Deeksha Chada, “Brain and Environmental Dynamics: Embracing our Adolescents” by Dr Mani Pavuluri and “Empowering Women to be self Sufficient” by Mrs. Radhika Sharma of Apna Ghar ,a local Charity fighting for women causes.

The Women’s day events were coordinated by Vandana Reddy, Sujatha Appalaneni , Bhargavi Nettem, Padma Madireddy and Uma Katiki. The Mc’s of the program were Vandana Reddy and Padma Madireddy.

As a part of event, Women were catered by sumptuous lunch by Viceroy of India followed by a variety of games and socializing activities. The event ended with dancing for the popular sound tracks by DJ which brought all women to the dance floor.
