Atlanta GA: It was a day to remember for all the women who participated in the ATA International Women's Day which was organized by enthusiastic volunteers of American Telugu Association (ATA) on March 8th, 2015 at the Banquet Hall of Taste of India restaurant, Alpharetta, GA. Where nearly more than 500 people were attended.

ATA (American Telugu Association) is a nonprofit national organization and was founded in 1990, head quartered in Chicago. The main purpose of the organization is to assist and promote literary, cultural, educational, religious, social, economic, health, community and many charitable activities of the people of Telugu origin.

For the second time in a row American Telugu Association (ATA) has put together this outstanding event which brought together women from various walks of life to learn, empower, unite and celebrate womanhood. Over 200 women of Telugu origin along with their family participated in this unique event. Ms. Shravani Yelakanti & Ms. Sowmya Yelakanti, both sisters, performed as Master of Ceremony for the event. The program began with a traditional lamp lighting 'Jyothi Prajwalana', followed by an invocation song performed Ganesh Vandana by two little sisters, Srinidhi and Bhargavi.

Various dances and cultural shows kept audiences captivated, while the games for the Ladies kept them entertained. Prizes for best hair and best pose were awarded. There were other games to churn the brain and to be spontaneous. Ladies did participate with full enthusiasm. Classical Fusion dance by Neelima’s Students and Hema Shilpa’s performances were most commendable. When a Girl gets educated, she promotes the light of knowledge to next generation too. Hence education for girls was emphasized by inviting Ekal Vidyalaya to come and share their success stories. Ekal presentation was done by Ms. Radhika Suda, who has passionately worked for the cause from last 15 years.

The organizers presented a very significant AV as a tribute to all the women leaders of the world, such as Janshi Rani Lakshmi Bai, Lakshmibai Kelkar, Durgabai Deshmukh, Indra Gandhi, Nagamma, Pooja Takur etc.

A scrumptious Andhra dinner was served to all in attendance.

To beautifully compliment the spirit of Indian womanhood the evening finale was done with the Fashion Show in unique way where girls had dressed up from the various states of India - Punjab, Gujrat, Maharashtra, Tamil, Kerala, Bengal, Telengana and Andhra Pradesh were represented with their traditional music & attire. Program ended with music and dancing which was enjoyed by all.

The unique features of the women’s day celebration of ATA, Atlanta are, unlike any other Telugu programs, It started dot on time and ended on time. Also it was organized and executed mainly by team of women folks, with the support of ATA board members Nanda Chatla, Venkat Veeraneni, Raghu Banda, Vikram Sudhini, Veenu Piske, Prasheel Gukanti, Anil Boddireddy and Karunakar Asireddy. The other team consists of Lakshmi Naramreddy, Vineela J, Madhavi Alladi, Poornima Banda, Shardha Naga and Radhika Suda. A special thanks to Nanda Chatla and Radhika Sudha for their committed service to ATA.
