ATA elects new Executive Committee for 2015-16 at board meeting

 

The American Telugu Association, an umbrella body of the community in the United States, has held its board meeting at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. Sudhakar Perkari was elected as the new president of the organization, popularly known as ATA.  Aside from the ATA board members, standing committee heads, regional coordinators and prominent Las Vegas and California community members attended the January 17th, 2015 meeting. In all, more than 200 delegates came from across the US. Incumbent President Karunakar Madhavaram passed on the baton to the new president. Along with Perkari, a revamped board of trustees has also been installed..

ATA unanimously elected 14 of its board of trustees (BOT) from different categories: Asireddy Karunakar, Muppidi Arvind and Sreeram Reddy, Cheemarla Narender, Patlolla Ravi, Ajay Aleti, Anantula Lokesh, Banala Sridhar, Bheemreddy Parmesh, Dargula Srinivas, Kukunoor Vinod, Lingala Hari, Sankeneni Venugopal.  All members of BOT took the oath and promised to uphold the ATA constitution and bylaws. The trustees will be in place for a four-year term beginning this year (2015-2018). ATA new board has elected Karunakar Asireddy from Atlanta as President-Elect in a unanimous vote.

President Sudhkar Perkari, in his presidential address, noted that ATA will be 25 years old this year. Having reached the major milestone, ATA, as an organization, continued to remember its main mission: to preserve and maintain the heritage of all American Telugus; to promote literary, cultural, educational, religious, social and economic activities of the community, and other aspects as mentioned in the ATA charter. He unveiled the new committee’s vision and plan of action for the next two years. ATA will celebrate its silver jubilee, which is followed by the 14th biennial three-day national convention in Chicago in 2016.

The ATA board elected the executive committee for 2015 and 2016. The following are members:

Treasurer: Kalyan Anandula

Joint Secretary: Soumya Kondapalli

Joint Treasurer: Suresh Jilla

Executive Director: Balwant Kommidi

 

The new executive committee appointed working committees for the 14th and 15th biennial conventions to be held in 2016 and 2018 in Chicago and Dallas, respectively. Narender Cheemarla was appointed as the convener and Satya Kandimalla as the chief adviser for the 2016 ATA gathering in Chicago, which will also formally celebrate the silver jubilee. Remaining team for 2016 will be announced soon.

Perkari thanked the immediate past president Madhavaram and his team, and congratulated them for their successful term. He also expressed his happiness about the highly successful ATA 2014 Philadelphia convention. Perkari praised convener Parmesh Bheemreddy, coordinator Bhuvanesh Boojala, and all other officeholders associated with the Philadelphia convention.
